Fireworks and Fur Babies Don't Mix

THE FOURTH OF JULY IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER

Dear Pet Parent,

We hope you all get time away from work to relax and enjoy friends, family and your four legged fur babies this fourth of July!

However, our furbabies don't always enjoy celebrations in the ways that we do. So we thought we would touch on a few do's and don'ts. We also want to give you a few herbal/supplement options to prevent anxiety related to fireworks.

It is safer to keep your pets at home during Fourth of July celebrations rather than taking her/him to an unfamiliar setting or neighborhood.
Keep your pets in the house, rather than in your yard. He/she will be a lot happier indoors, and not tempted to leap over a fence to find you or take off, if startled by fireworks.
Since dogs can be easily startled by the loud noise of fireworks, we recommend creating a peaceful environment that he/she can enjoy rather than focusing on the stressful sounds of fireworks.
If he/she is crate trained put him/her in the crate covered with a blanket for security.
Block outside sights and sounds by lowering the blinds and turning on the television or playing soothing music in the background to counteract the cacophony during neighborhood fireworks or audible fireworks in your area. We recommend Whole Tones or pet relaxation music (both of which can be downloaded on amazon or itunes).
If your pet seems overly anxious, spend some time with them, speaking soothingly to help them to relax.
You may want to wrap them in a thundershirt.
We recommend diffusing calming essential oil blends like : Stress Away or Calm-a-Mile or Cammomile (Please see Animal EO's website for more information)
We also highly recommend hemp oil or chews to calm the mind and reduce your pet's natural reaction to loud sounds. (Click the above links to learn more)
If your pet is prone to separation anxiety, you can administer Shen Calmer. Separation anxiety is related to a blood and yin deficiency of the heart. I recommend double the dose prior to a stressful event.

Important points to note:

Fear is connected to an imbalance in the kidney element
Fright is related to an imbalance in the heart element.
Any pet that has suffered with a chronic condition usually needs adrenal support. When the adrenal glands are taxed, pets will become more fearful or easily frightened with age.
