I’m sure you the last thing you are thinking about is how you can use this time of chaos, the PANDEMIC, to strengthen your immune system, but it should be the FIRST thing you are thinking about.
Let me start by telling you a funny story.
As you know, in Chinese medicine, we diagnose most imbalances through the evaluation of the tongue and pulse. In one of my classes at the Chi Institute we were studying with a well reknowned human acupuncturist. She was teaching on “reading the tongue” and asked each student to stick out their tongue one at a time while she went around the large table evaluating each student and sharing with the class.
When she got to me, not only did she gasp but she shared with the class that based on my tongue, most people in my state would not be alive.
Seriously....she said that.
The good news was, I, myself, had discovered this at a very young age. I was destined to pursue alternative medicine.
While a person of my age group, was minimally vaccinated, the vaccines that I received as a child severely damaged my health. They destroyed my gut immunity, resulting in undiagnosed food allergies, chronic fatigue, severe damp heat with blood, qi and yin deficiency.
I could never find a doctor to help me with my issues. It was literally a miracle that my dad was obsessed with health and the study thereof. At 12 years of age, I began my journey into the world of health, diet, herbs, supplements and alternative medicine.
As most of you know, Hippocrates stated that all disease begins in the gut.
And unbeknownst to him, 70% of our immune system lives in the gut.
If we fail to address the health of our gut, our diet, the things we put into our bodies on a day to day basis, we will NEVER thrive.
My journey began with food and to this day this is what we try to teach each of you regarding your pet’s health. Food is Medicine.
The saying “you are what you eat” is in fact true, as all food, water and supplements is used to by our body to make new RNA and that RNA forms new DNA.
If we are putting allergens, pharmaceuticals, alcohol, nicotine or any other substance into our body, then these will enfold into our RNA the same.
I’m telling you this so you can understand, what you put into your body on a day to day basis will create “WHO YOU ARE” and either strengthen your immune system or weaken it.
Let me give you another example:
My uncle was born with polycystic kidney disease. As a child I remember how he he would always joke around with me and my cousins, telling us that one day, we may have to give him one of our kidneys. I mean we loved him and all but that’s a big gift....haha
My aunt and uncle were unable to have children so they adopted a boy and girl about 5 years apart. His son looked like he belonged to our family while the daughter looked nothing like any of us. But guess what?
When the time came for his children to test for a match for his kidney, his daughter was a perfect match.
I was extremely interested in this, as I believed in Epigenetics and outside influences on our DNA but had been discouraged when I was corrected at UAB that outside influences did NOT affect our DNA.
So you can imagine how excited I was when I found out that his daughter was a perfect match because she had grown up in the same household as my uncle, shared the same types of food, drank the same water and lived under the same FREQUENCIES!!!!!!
Our RNA and DNA is not only influenced by the foods we eat, the water we drink, our lifestyle choices we make, but also the thoughts we THINK!
I’ve posted one of my favorite charts at the top of this email that lists the order of emotions and the level of frequency that each holds.
Please take not, Fear is listed at the bottom of the chart (light green) and the frequency is a low resonating frequency. As you can see, this frequency results in INACTION.
And that is exactly what it does to the immune system.
Fear paralyzes the immune system.
The adrenal glands are our “FIGHT or FLIGHT” glands. These glands are activated when the mind experiences Fear.
This is a state that is meant to be temporary.
However, when we find ourselves living in a time where everyone is on edge, afraid to leave their homes, or take off their masks, or come in close contact with other human beings, not only are we DEPRIVING the body of healthy human interaction which BOOSTS the immune system but we are also triggering long term release of stress hormones which results in IMMUNOSUPPRESSION.
Fear of a disease will indeed lower the body’s immune system to protect against the disease.
So how do we prevent Fear?
Through understanding the immune system and how the body works in protecting against invaders.
Keep in mind, there will ALWAYS be invaders.
It’s also important to re-evaluate and remember that we are not living in ancient times or even in a 3rd world country.
Pandemics and plagues that wiped out populations in the centuries before us were due to conditions of filth, rodents running rapid, unclean water, lack of understanding of hygiene, lack of understanding of germs and bacteria.
We are NOT living in those times. The news may make you feel that way, but that is NOT the case. We are a modern society and we have access to clean water, fresh food and fresh air.
But we still have good news for this time, this is an excellent time to make your body stronger. This is how our DNA evolves to protect us in the future.
This is why Survival of the Fittest is a true evolutionary mechanism.
A pandemic is not a time to hide but rather a time to THRIVE!
This is the time to begin to asses your health. Use this time as a “wake up call” or “a blessing in disguise”.
If I would not have had the battle I had during most of my life, I would have missed out on my DESTINED PATH.
Just as I try to teach, that each pet was sent to teach us something and it is just us that has to listen, we can view the travesties in our culture the same way.
What can you learn from this pandemic?
We can definitely learn how our immune systems work.
And we must learn to be proactive, rather than reactive. We must prepare our bodies for health so they can combat any invader now and in the future!
The best comparison to your immune system is an example of the military.
Do you want a strong, well trained, disciplined military that can protect you from invaders or do you want a weak, complacent, uninterested military to come to your aid?
I know which one I want....
To have a healthy immune system, we must feed it the essential for life. We must feed our immune system oxygen, clean water and good nutrition, just as you would feed an army.
We must give them the opportunity to train. We cannot keep them hidden away from any invaders or they will not be prepared to fight.
These little army men, aka. white cells or killer T cells are ready to protect us. They stand guard at every gate.
BUT, if we are not taking care of our health, they will snooze and we will lose.
Not only do we have our white cells standing guard but we have good bacteria or a microbiome. Thankfully, the medical community is finally recognizing the major importance our microbiome has on our health. The holistic community has been studying this information for over 40 years.
Our entire make up consists of good and bad bacteria. Our goal is to feed the good bacteria which in turn, creates homeostasis in our body providing our natural immune system the environment it needs to fight when necessary.
A few common places we have bacteria and white cells standing guard to protect us:
1. Mouth
2. Nose
3. Trachea/Respiratory Tract
4. Intestinal tract/Colon
5. Urinary Tract
6. Skin
Do you see a pattern here? We have trained military agents and bacteria standing guard at EVERY entrance to our body. This is not a mere coincidence, but rather a most strategic design!
Since we are dealing with a respiratory invader during this pandemic, we will want to focus on keeping our lungs and our colon strong. In traditional Chinese Medicine, the colon is viewed as the excretory organ of the lungs. I like to think of the colon as the water waste plant. It excretes what we don’t need and retains what we do need.
We must take care of the colon, as the colon’s health directly affects the health of the lungs.
- The colon is the detox organ of the lungs, so if he's congested or inflamed, then the lungs will be more susceptible to pathogenic invaders
- 70% of the immune system resides within the intestinal tract, if the colon is inflamed or congested, the immune system will not be functioning optimally.
How do we prevent inflammation and congestion of the colon?
- Autumnal Detox - it is important to detox in the spring and fall. If you have a weak immune system, it may be best to detox year round.
- Eat a healthy diet -Fresh is best, feeding for the seasons is even better but most importantly reducing carbohydrates, sugars, GMOs and preservatives. We also recommend limiting and/or reducing any cow’s milk dairy as this creates dampness and can result in respiratory issues.
- Use a Neti pot to flush your sinuses and mouth with saline. This will pull any invaders that have tried to come in through those orifices out in the salt.
- Sleep with a dehumidifier as this will keep the nostrils, trachea and respiratory tract moist and healthy so they can push out invaders.
- Nourish a healthy gut lining with prebiotics and probiotics.
- Incorporate digestive enzymes - proper digestion of foods will reduce lower colonic inflammation
- Support the immune system with Colostrum, Transfer Factor or other immune modulators like medicinal mushrooms, vitamin D, C and Zinc.
- Avoid antibiotics as they destroy the healthy gut flora
- Receive regular acupuncture treatments or chiropractic adjustments as these keep the lymphatic channels open. As long as the lymph is free flowing, the body will not suffer disease.
- Limit the use of chemicals - use natural alternatives such as BioKleen or Enzymatic cleaners.
- Say NO TO FEAR!!!! That may mean turning off the news!!!!
